In a boating emergency, radio Channel 16 on VHF or Channel 88 on 27MHz, or ring Triple Zero (000)

Boat training and education are key elements of Marine Rescue policy. We believe that education is better than legislation, and those with knowledge and experience are better prepared to go to sea and rarely need to be assisted.

Your skills can be enhanced, and the safety of your vessel, crew and passengers improved by active participation and successful completion of appropriate marine education and training courses.

A safety course for paddle craft users is the latest educational offering from Marine Rescue Brisbane Water, and has been compiled by MRBW member, Dr Steven Constantine.

The course covers all aspects of safety, including the importance of letting Marine Rescue know when you head out and return, how to manage an incident, and reporting your location.

Free mobile phone apps that are available, including those from Marine Rescue, Paddle Australia, the Bureau of Meteorology and the Australian developed Emergency Plus, are discussed in detail during the informative two-hour session.

Marine Rescue Brisbane Water is keen to offer similar safety educational courses to other water-based recreational groups in the area. Contact Steven Constantine at MRBW – 4337 9600.
